The journey begins with a scenic drive from Haridwar to Chopta, which is a beautiful hamlet situated at an altitude of 2,680 meters above sea level. From here, you will start the trek to Tungnath, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is located at an altitude of 3,680 meters. The trek to Tungnath is a gradual ascent and takes around 3-4 hours to complete.
Once you reach Tungnath, you will be greeted with breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks and valleys. From here, you will trek for another hour to reach the Chandrashila summit, which is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters. The summit offers panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges, including the Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedar peaks.
The trek back from Chandrashila to Chopta is a gentle descent and takes around 2-3 hours to complete. Along the way, you will pass through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and deodar trees, and see a variety of Himalayan flora and fauna.

Trek Itinerary
Detailed Day-By-Day Trek Schedule
On Day 1, you will start your journey by driving from Rishikesh to Sari village. It is a scenic drive of approximately 7-8 hours and you will pass through beautiful villages and towns along the way. Upon reaching Sari village, you can check into your accommodation and spend the evening exploring the village.
On Day 2, you will begin your trek from Sari village to Deoriatal. This is a moderate trek of around 3km which takes around 3-4 hours and the trail takes you through dense forests of oak and rhododendron trees. Once you reach Deoriatal, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
On Day 3, you will trek back from Deoriatal to Sari village and then drive to Chopta. Chopta is a beautiful hill station and the starting point of the trek to Chandrashila. You can spend the evening exploring the town and acclimatizing to the altitude.
On Day 4, you will embark on the trek from Chopta to Chandrashila via Tungnath Temple. This is a challenging trek of around 6-7 hours and takes you through beautiful meadows, forests, and rocky terrain. The Tungnath Temple, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world, is situated en route to Chandrashila. From Chandrashila, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After spending some time at the summit, you will trek back to Sari village for the night.
On Day 5, you will depart from Sari village and head back to Rishikesh, marking the end of your trekking adventure in the beautiful Garhwal Himalayas.
